Barbie On Shelves
From the time Barbie was introduced to the market to current day, The Barbie Doll Debut has evolved into something much bigger and extravagant than how it started. Once Barbie was advertised on the shelves of the local toy shops, many were excited while others were disgusted. One mother said, "I wouldn't walk around the house like that. I don't like that influence on my little girl. If only they would let children remain young a little longer....It's hard enough to raise a lady these days without undue moral pressures" (Lord 39). Although some were furious with this new popular doll, it became a big hit very fast. Barbie mainly attracted young girls as well as girls in their teens. This attraction was mainly because these young girls strive to be like Barbie, pretty, wealthy, and popular. Because Barbie was becoming a well-known toy doll, Mattel began to produce more dolls much like Barbie. Within ten years of releasing, Barbie’s new fans spent $500 million worth of her and her products.
